Dana Smirin

Dana Smirin is a native of South Africa and has managed a consulting practice in the United States, Europe, and South Africa working within government, private sector, academia and NGO communities for 17 years. She is currently the Special Assistant to the Dean of the College of Natural Resources for Sustainability and New Initiatives at the University of Berkeley, California. Some of her work there includes identifying and initiating sustainability opportunities, working on specific projects oriented around Urban Sustainable Development, Global Poverty, and innovation and scalability of sustainability related technologies. Her mandate is to build bridges inside and out of the University. Prior to joining Berkeley Smirin was living in Germany as an American Council on Germany McCloy Fellow investigating acceleration of Clean Technologies to market. Smirin’s consulting company has assisted early stage companies perform strategic and business planning, market alignment, implementation and building strategic alliances. She is skilled at identifying capital and market opportunities. Over seventeen years Smirin has developed a global network across multiple sectors with her focus being in sustainability opportunities. Smirin sits in various advisory capacities to Clean Technology related Funds, Ngo’s involved in sustainability work and sustainability oriented companies from natural product market to energy companies. She speaks in public on an array of topics related to sustainability and Development in Southern Africa.
