Jean Rogers
Dr. Jean Rogers is a Principal with Arup and leads the sustainability consulting group in the San Francisco office. Jean has 20 years experience in sustainability and management consulting, leading development projects that focus on integrating sustainability into planning and design in order to reduce risk and improve performance across the triple bottom line. Jean created the framework for sustainable redevelopment of Treasure Island, a former military base in the middle of San Francisco Bay, focusing on key environmental and community issues, such as energy, water, transportation, climate change, and access to essential services. She is currently leading the effort to develop the sustainability plan for the regeneration of the Bayview Hunters Point area of San Francisco. Jean also led a project with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to develop a 5 year Sustainability Plan focused on improving the delivery of water and power to the Bay Area and recently led a similar effort by the New York Power Authority to develop its recently released Sustainability Plan. Jean led the sustainability consulting for the California Academy of Sciences, which recently achieved a LEED Platinum rating for this highly sustainable building which will host 1.6 million visitors per year. Jean’s work included prioritization of sustainability strategies, evaluation of performance, and incorporation of renewable energy into the design. Jean was a significant contributor to the development of the Global Reporting Initiative G3 sustainability reporting guidelines, which are now used by over 1,000 companies worldwide for reporting their sustainability impacts worldwide. She is active in the field of sustainability reporting and indicator development, currently working with the Institute for Responsible Investing at Boston College to develop a framework for sector-based reporting of sustainability impacts and opportunities for use in the US. The framework and tailored indicators are designed to allow for comparability and benchmarking, ultimately sending market signals that will move entire sectors in a more sustainable direction. Jean is a former Loeb Fellow at Harvard University, Graduate School of Design, where she conducted research and lectured in sustainable design. Jean is a member of the Responsible Property Investing Council of the Urban Land Institute, where she leads the metrics committee. She is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of California and Illinois, and USGBC LEEDTM Accredited Professional.
