The Breakthrough Institute

The Breakthrough Institute is a think tank that hired Next Agenda to produce immersive video coverage of their inaugural Breakthrough Dialogue, "Modernizing Liberalism." For this project, we combined multicamera coverage of a series of four conference panels with in-depth side interviews and a series of new, innovative standups with graphics and other web tools. Through these elements, we created an immersive set of content that the institute can use on its website to promote its mission and visibility. Read on to learn more and watch some of the video we produced.

Behind the Scenes

Go behind the scenes to see how Next Agenda immersively covers a conference. Over three days, we covered "Modernizing Liberalism," the inaugural conference put on by the Breakthrough Institute. Watch how we used multiple cameras to document all four sessions, and conducted in-depth side interviews with more than a dozen speakers and attendees. Get an inside glimpse into how we set up a green screen room for standups with 15 of the smartest thinkers, where they could talk about their big ideas - from which we could later superimpose innovative graphics that illuminate these complex concepts.

Documentary

This fifteen minute long documentary adds deeper insight to the conference experience. For "Modernizing Liberalism," the Next Agenda team collected hours of footage - from the complete conference sessions to in depth side interviews and scenes of the beautiful Sausalito location. From this footage, we weaved together a compelling narrative that tells the story of the Breakthrough Institute's inaugural Breakthrough Dialogue, that sought to understand how liberalism can be adapted to our global 21st century realities.

Standups

To get deeper into the breakthrough thinking from conference attendees, we also produce unique standups that illuminate complex ideas through the innovative use of graphics. Using two cameras, a green screen setup, and journalistic interviewing techniques, we can highlight big ideas for a wide audience. Watch this standup with Peter Kareiva, the Chief Scientist of the Nature Conservancy, as he discusses myths about nature and how conservation can move past them.

This whiteboard is a great way to present and frame all videos from a conference. Click through each circle to get a nuanced look at some big ideas that emerged from the Breakthrough Institute's conference on "Modernizing Liberalism," and watch in-depth interviews and standups with experts.

Side Interviews

Through side interviews done during an event, we can document some of the big ideas that don't necessarily make it to the stage, or further illuminate thinking that emerges during conference sessions. For these interviews, we use highly mobile high definition cameras and journalistic interviewing techniques to capture the energy of these big ideas. Watch this interview with Stewart Brand, the author of "The Whole Earth Discipline," as he talks about the daunting global challenges we face and some of the exciting potential technological solutions we'll need as we navigate the next century.

Session Report-Outs

At any conference, the Next Agenda team immersively covers the events that happen on stage. We use at least two HD cameras so that we can document all interaction and crowd reactions. Using multiple cameras also allows us to edit the final video piece down, so that viewers can get a sense of the what happened without watching the whole session. A Tribute to the Funders

The Nathan Cummings Foundation helped fund Next Agenda's coverage of the Breakthrough Institute's inaugural conference. With their support, we covered the conference and helped broadcast ideas from some of the brightest thinkers on the stage and in attendance. At the conference, the Breakthrough Institute honored the Cummings Foundation with a dinner and an awards ceremony, which we covered. We then did interviews with some of the main people involved with the Cummings Foundation, and then edited this piece that tells a compelling story of the foundation's support.

Our work with the George Soros-founded nonprofit organization Institute for New Economic Thinking showcases the two core offerings that Next Agenda can help anyone with. We produced a very sophisticated and elaborate video selection, and we also have helped this organization both initiate and evolve their online collaboration as they build a global community around changing the nature of modern economics.

Sogeti

We help companies connect their leaders and core teams with the broader range of their stakeholders, from employees scattered across the world to their customers and the public at large. For this project, we worked with a global corporation based in Europe that wanted an annual meeting of their 300 top executives to be opened up to all 20,000 of their employees scattered around the world. The video we shot was designed to elicit these employees' genuine feedback and insights to their long-term strategic plan.
